San Francisco State University and the department of Broadcast
& Electronic Communication Arts (BECA) invites applicants for a
tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Sports and News
Production, beginning August 2018.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. or M.F.A., or equivalent terminal
degree in relevant discipline(s) (completed by August 1, 2018); M.A. may be considered with
significant professional experience (minimum of 10 years) and scholarly
potential. Candidates will have a strong potential for scholarly and /or
creative work with demonstrated ability to teach some or all of the following:
TV Sports Production & Reporting, TV News Production & Reporting,
Multi-Platform Sports & News Production, Broadcast Sports, and News Writing
courses across a variety of media and venues. Preferred candidates should
possess strong technical and conceptual skills as well as experience teaching,
or mentoring minorities, or other underrepresented groups.
Candidates must have an active record of creative activity or
scholarship related to their specialty area, and teaching, research, and
creative work complement departmental offerings and strengths. Candidates must
be able to demonstrate how they have or will incorporate inclusion, diversity,
and educational equity in their courses and/or scholarship/creative works.
The position requires graduate and/or undergraduate teaching in
Sports and News Production, mentoring and advising graduate and/or
undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing program of creative work
or scholarship in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service
assignments. Development of new courses is highly encouraged, and the candidate
will work with colleagues to develop a strategy that keeps the program at the
forefront of innovation. Serving on department, college, and university
committees is required. A commitment to working effectively with students,

Rank and salary
Assistant Professor. Salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience. The California State University (CSU) provides generous health,
